In a recent cover story, Deafheaven frontman George Clarke drops the news with a straightforward certainty: we’ll hear new material next year. That blunt confirmation is a refreshing departure from the band’s usual pacing and signals a potentially seismic shift in their blackgaze landscape for 2026.
For longtime followers, the timing might feel surprising. Deafheaven has historically stretched gaps between releases, with Lonely People with Power arriving in March 2025 after Infinite Granite in 2021. In between, the wait periods were typically two to four years. So, will the “new music” be a full-length album again, or something smaller in scale? Either option is plausible, and both are exciting given the band’s track record of ambition and experimentation.
Beyond the tease, Clarke also revealed a heavy touring plan for 2026. He emphasizes a simple, enduring goal: stay focused on delivering strong live shows, meeting new and familiar fans, and visiting new places. The touring heavy schedule is described as a return to the core, day-one mentality—busier than this year, which he calls a blessing.
Currently, Deafheaven has announced a limited European run and a spot at Sick New World in Texas for next year. Clarke’s comments hint that additional North American dates are likely to be added as plans develop.
