Hold on tight, Stranger Things fans! The end is almost here, and it sounds like it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster. The fifth and final season of Netflix’s mega-hit Stranger Things is poised to drop, and a sneak peek of the opening five minutes is already causing a frenzy online! But are you ready for what this glimpse reveals?
Scheduled to premiere on November 27th, this final season promises to be a pop-culture event. The very first episode, titled "The Crawl," throws us right back to where it all began: 1983, in the wake of Will Byers’s (Noah Schnapp) disappearance.
The released clip features a haunting scene where Will, trapped in the terrifying Upside Down, sings “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” in a desperate attempt to stay calm. But his efforts are futile. A Demogorgon, one of the series' signature monsters, quickly appears and drags Will to the lair of the ultimate big bad, Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). It's here where things take a truly sinister turn. Vecna chillingly proclaims, “At long last, we can begin,” before sending a vine snaking down Will's throat. He then whispers, “You and I, we are going to do such beautiful things together.” Talk about setting a dark tone!
But here's where it gets controversial... Some fans are already debating whether this scene hints at a deeper connection between Will and Vecna than previously suspected. Could Will be more than just a victim? What 'beautiful things' could Vecna be referring to?
The second part of this concluding season will be released on Boxing Day, with the grand finale airing on New Year's Day – and, excitingly, it's also slated for screenings in select cinemas.
The official synopsis paints a grim picture: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished – his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming – and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone – the full party – standing together, one last time.”
This synopsis suggests a season with higher stakes, more significant threats, and an even deeper dive into the emotional core of the characters. The 'full party' uniting one last time indicates that all the beloved characters, even those on the fringes, will play a crucial role in the final showdown.
The surprise clip surfaced on YouTube after the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday, which was a star-studded affair, with cast members like Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour gracing the red carpet.
And this is the part most people miss... While the premiere was a celebration, it was also a somber acknowledgment of the end of an era for the cast and crew.
Series co-creator Matt Duffer recently stated that “The scale of it is bigger… It’s more action and more special effects, but it’s also by far the most emotional season because it’s the end of the story for all of these characters.” His brother and co-creator, Ross Duffer, added, “Bringing it out in the world is nerve-racking, but we’re ready to finally show it.”
The Duffer brothers' comments highlight the immense pressure they're under to deliver a satisfying conclusion to a series that has captured the hearts of millions. The promise of more action and special effects, coupled with a deeply emotional storyline, suggests that the final season will be a spectacle unlike anything we've seen before.
